50th Annual Vinton County Air Show Canceled Due to COVID-19

The Coronavirus has claimed another victim, the Vinton County Air Show. Scheduled for Sunday, September 27 the 50th Annual Air Show was cancelled by a unanimous vote of Vinton County Pilots and Boosters Association members during a meeting Sunday, June 14, 2020.

The Vinton County Commissioners had endorsed holding the air show, but when Air Show Chairman Nick Rupert visited the Vinton County Health Department and learned the ins and outs of social distancing, the wearing of masks, and other procedures needed he told the group. “I am really on the fence about this.”

Association President Paul Wittkopf said, “If we have the air show we will hold a tremendous liability with those attending and our own members.” Another member asked, “What is the responsible thing to do?” With that the vote to cancel was taken.

Other previously scheduled events at the Vinton County Airport had already been cancelled.

Hopefully a full schedule of events can be held at the airport next year.
