Adena Heads To District Final As Piketon Loses To Eastern Brown

The Adena Warriors are the lone SVC Division 3 boys basketball team still standing in the post-season, advancing to the district final against Fairland in a 74-48 win over South Point.

The Warriors trailed only once in the game at 2-0, and never trailed again. Adena led at each stop: 17-12, 35-24, 51-39 and 74-48.

Adena was red-hot from the field, shooting 29/43 for 67%- including 6/11 from the arc and added 10/16 at the foul line. The Pointers were 18/40 from the field for 45%- including 2/8 from the arc and 10/20 at the free throw line.

The Warriors grabbed 30 rebounds to only 14 for South Point, with SP having 12 turnovers and 11 for Adena.

(23-2) Adena was led by Logan Bennett's 22 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Preston Sykes 13 points/10 rebounds, then Jacob Shipley with 12 points, Jarrett Garrison 10, Dillon McDonald 9, 4 for Nate Throckmorton and 2 each from Davis Kerns and Caleb Osborne.

Adena's defense shut-down the Pointers offensive scoring leader Austin Webb, holding the 6'3 senior to only 6 points. Nakyan Turner led them with 15 points and Mason Kazee added 10.

Adena will face #1 seed Fairland at a neutral site to be named later, on Friday at 7pm. Fairland beat North Adams 70-45 advance to the district finals. (15-5) South Point split with Fairland in the regular season.

Elsewhere Tuesday, the PIketon Redstreaks fell to Eastern Brown 60-54. The Redstreaks led 31-28 at halftime, but were unable to hold on, seeing their season come to a close. Eastern Brown will face Wheelersburg in their bracket of the district finals on Friday as well.
