Hillsboro man waives rights

A 25-year-old Hillsboro man accused of sexually abusing his own son waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning before a Highland County Municipal Court Judge. Garrett Salyer is facing a first degree felony rape charge, that after admitting to a counselor that he sexually abused his son multiple times. By Salyer waiving his right to a hearing, the case will go straight to a grand jury. Municipal court documents showed that in a recent session with a counselor, Salyer confessed to sexually abusing his then-1-year-old son on multiple occasions in 2019. After the counselor contacted Highland County Children Services on April 22nd following the confession by Salyer, officers went to his Treewood Drive apartment to question him about his confession. Salyer admitted to the crime at that time and was taken into custody.
