Woman Found Guilty of Felony Animal Cruelty in Ross County

A Waverly woman accused in the July 2021 dragging of dog has been found guilty of felony animal cruelty.

Cynthia Temple-Colburn, of Waverly, was found guilty on charges of fifth-degree felony cruelty to animals and first-degree misdemeanor cruelty to animals in the Ross County Court of Common Pleas. Witnesses to the event provided testimony as did humane and veterinary professionals.

Temple-Colburn had been accused of knowingly dragging a dog from her car by its leash for roughly one mile along a Ross County roadway on July 6th of last year. She was later indicted by a Ross County Grand Jury.

The dog, named Blake by staff at the Ross County Humane Society, sustained severe injuries from the dragging and was euthanized as a result.

The Ross County Humane Society in concert with the Ross County Dog Warden’s Office say this case is the first successful prosecution of a felony case of animal cruelty in Ross County.

Temple-Coburn will be sentenced on March 24th.
