Friends and family of a Chillicothe teenager, found dead in an east end backyard last October, rallied in front of the Ross County Courthouse on Monday calling for stiffer penalties against one of the people charged in the case. Jason Bartley, 17, was found deceased in the backyard of a residence in the 300-block of East Second Street on October 18th of last year of acute alcohol poisoning.
Two people have been charged in relation to the case. Sandy France, 33, of Chillicothe faces two counts of third-degree felony involuntary manslaughter. France is alleged to have provided the alcohol that ultimately resulted Bartley's death.
The second person, Christopher P. Detty, 33, of Chillicothe, faces a second-degree misdemeanor charge of abuse of a corpse, a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge of failure to report a death, and a second-degree misdemeanor charge of obstruction. It's the charges against Detty that Bartley's aunt, Tammy Moore, says they'd like to see increased to a felony level.
"There's probably 75 to 100 people here rallying for Justice for Jason because we don't feel the charges were enough," said Moore. "We're hoping that the courts will hear our plea and raise the charge."
Detty lived near the area where Bartley's body was discovered.
