The Circleville Post 134 Panthers edged the top-seeded Waverly Post 142 Shockers 3-2 for the Region 5 American Legion Senior Division Baseball Championship at V.A. Memorial Stadium, Thursday night. Circleville entered the tournament as a number 3 seed.
The game was dead-locked at 2-2 for most of the middle innings until Seth Lockard's RBI base-hit in the top of the 7th inning proved to be the margin of victory.
The championship is Circleville's third straight regional title and their 6th in the last 8 years. Waverly had advanced to the final with a 3-0 win over Hillsboro, earlier in the day.
Circleville will now advance to the American Legion State Baseball Tournament next week in Lancaster, Ohio.
