Winners Selected for Paint Valley ADAMH Write In Red Essay Contest

Several south-central Ohio school students are winners in this year's annual "Write In Red, Red Ribbon Week Essay Contest."

That contest is conducted each year by Paint Valley ADAM-H during October's Red Ribbon Week to raise awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. It's open to all middle and high school students, with entrants using a red pen to write an essay on drug and alcohol abuse.

One student from each county was selected to receive a $100 prize for winning their school's essay contest, and a $500 college scholarship for winning the county contest.

This year's big winners were:

  • Jalynne Nichols of Unioto High School
  • Eastern Middle School's Nataleigh Blankenship
  • Laci Mulenkamp of Fairfield High School
  • Washington High School's Mackenzie Schaffer

“Each year the students provide absolutely the best essays, touching our hearts and opening our eyes as we realize how the environment impacts their lives," said Paint Valley ADAMH Board Executive Director, Penny Dehner. It is so energizing to see our youth take a proactive stand against drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse by sharing their personal stories, doing research into relevant issues and explain their determination to remain drug free."
