On the last day of 2018, the city of Columbus recorded just over one inch of rainfall to set a new record for the most precipitation in a single year.
According to measurements at John Glenn International Airport last night, the city officially registered an annual count of 55.18 inches of rainfall for the year.
The previous high mark of 54.96 inches was set back in 2011, and the new total shatters the average rainfall the region is expected to get on a yearly basis by almost 17 inches.
Climate data has shown an upward trend in the amount of rain the Ohio Valley has been receiving with higher and higher levels since 1958.
