Some Hillsboro Churches Remain Open, Offering Shelter During Extreme Cold

Highland County's homeless Shelter is providing a list of locations that can offer shelter and warmth to community members in need during this week's freezing temperatures.

Shelter Director Greg Hawkins tells the Highland County Press the county shelter is prevented from acting as a warming center due to state guidelines. But he adds that he will work to help individuals that are in need find shelter. Hawkins says he'll be available 24/7 at 937-393-0634. Calls for shelter must go through Mr. Hawkins.

In the meantime, two local churches are keeping their does open to provide warmth.

The Cornerstone Assembly of God will remain open through noon on Thursday, January 31st. The church is located at 8343 State Route 73 in Hillsboro. The North Coast Church, located at 136 North High St. in Hillsboro is also keeping their doors open to those in need.
