Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board have released new details about the moments in which a medical helicopter crashed late last month in Vinton County, killing three first responders.
The NTSB's preliminary report says the crew monitoring the flight saw the helicopter make a turn to the right, then a "sharp left turn." That's when tracking software noticed a problem.
It's still unclear why the "Survival Flight" chopper crashed. Two other air-medical companies had opted not to accept the assignment over concerns about weather.
Officials with the NTSB say it may be sometime before an official cause is determined.
