The Adena Warriors never trailed in their 53-40 Division 3 District Basketball championship win over Chesapeake Saturday at Ohio University.

Adena started quickly for a 6-0 lead, and held leads of 10-2 and 12-4, before Chesapeake closed to within 12-8 at the end of the first period. Chesapeake was within 21-20, before the Warriors scored the final four points of the half for a 25-20 advantage at halftime.

It took Adena a couple of minutes to score in the third quarter, but managed to keep from falling behind, taking a 35-33 lead to the fourth quarter. With the score tied 35-35, the Warriors went on a 7-0 run to build a lead they would not relinquish. The game was tied three times, but the Panthers were never able to take the lead.

Adena had two players with double-doubles. Logan Bennett scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Zach Fout scored 14 points with 10 rebounds. Caleb Fogelsong scored 8 of his 9 points in the first half and Preston Sykes added 8 points with 5 boards. Jacob Shipley had 3 points and Nate Throckmorton added 2.

The Panthers were led by Levi Blankenship with 11 points while Eli Archer added 10. Three Chesapeake players fouled out of the game while Throckmorton was the only Warrior to foul out.

Adena shot 18/42 for 43%- including 3/12 from the arc and added 14/21 at the charity stripe. Chesapeake shot 16/37 for 43%- including 1/11 behind the arc at 7/17 at the line.

The Warriors committed a game-high 17 turnovers while Chesapeake had 15. Adena destroyed Chesapeake on the boards with 37 rebounds to 20 for Peake.

Adena improves to (19-6), winning their first district boys basketball crown since 1980. Chesapeake falls to (15-11). The Warriors will play state-ranked World Harvest Prep on Thursday, March 14th at 8pm. WKKJ airtime will be 7:45pm.
