The 22nd Annual Scioto River Waterway Cleanup is coming up next weekend. That local initiative seeks volunteers to come out to the banks of the Scioto River in Chillicothe to help pick up trash and other debris.

Volunteers are asked to meet in the Chillicothe Park Annex at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27th. Specifically the last parking lot to the right in the Annex.

Volunteer teams will then make their way along the banks of the Scioto for the clean up effort. Additionally, teams will also be traveling off-site to clean the banks at Strawser Park.

It’s recommended that participants bring and wear old clothes, rubber boots and a pair of rubber gloves. Mosquito repellent is also a wise choice. Refreshments will be provided. The cleanup will take place rain or shine.

The clean up also offers those in need, a community service credit. Just make sure to ask organizers for certification of participation.

The Scioto River Waterway Cleanup is sponsored by Ross County Litter Control and Recycling, Chillicothe Parks & Rec., The RPHF Solid Waste District, Crispie Crème Donuts, G&J Pepsi, and Henderson Pharmacy.

Chillicothe’s 20th Annual Earth Gathering kicks off directly following the cleanup. That’ll be at 11:00 a.m. on the lawn of the Pump House Center for the Arts.
