Chillicothe’s annual Feast of the Flowering Moon kicks off Friday. The event runs from Friday, May 24th to Sunday, May 26th, and offers a wide array of events and attractions. There’s Native American music and dancing, mountain men encampments, arts and crafts, and lots of live entertainment.

The festival opens at 10am Friday. The crowning of the festival royalty takes place at the main stage at 6:30pm with the Ross County Junior Idol competition following at 7pm.

Friday’s feast opening is also accompanied by the first Boogie on the Blacktop of the season. That takes place in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge from 7pm to 11pm with live music provided by the band Six to Noon. It’s three bucks to get in.

On Saturday, the annual baby contest takes place at 11:00 a.m. There’s also a memorial day ceremony set to take place at 3:30 p.m. in Memorial Park. That’ll be followed by the Memorial Day Weekend Grand Parade at 5:00 p.m. The Ross County Idol semi finals take place at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, a new event to the feast takes place 2:00 p.m. That’s the Pie in the Face charity fundraiser. It includes members of Chillicothe’s law enforcement, legal and political communities, as participants line up to take a pie in the face to raise money for a local charity of their choice. It features Sheriff George Lavender, Police Chief Keith Washburn, Commissioner Doug Corcoran, Judge Matt Schmidt, and County Prosecutor Jeff Marks.

The festival wraps up on Sunday with the finals for the Ross County Idol competition at 5:10 p.m.
