A traffic stop in Chillicothe Tuesday resulted in what authorities say is the largest single heroin seizure made by Chillicothe City Police.
-
The traffic stop was conducted shortly after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Bridge and Main Streets following an observed registration violation by an on-duty officer.
-
Criminal indicators were observed and a Police K9 Unit was called to the scene. The dog alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed 3.4 pounds of suspected heroin and more than $2,200 in cash.
-
The driver, yet to be identified by authorities, is an out-of-state resident. Chillicothe Police Chief Keith Washburn tells the Chillicothe Gazette that charges of first-degree felony possession are expected. The charge would carry a major drug offender specification, which requires a mandatory prison sentence for the accused if convicted.

The drugs were estimated to have a street value of around $165,000 to $200,000.
