Health Grant to Ross County Hopes to Curb Smoking

The Ross County Health District has been awarded a grant to address the high smoking rates in the county. Community Health Specialist Asti Powell says the grant from the Ohio Department of Health is intended to promote change.

.

Powell says the grant will be received as reimbursements and could total up to $100,000.

.

Specifically, she says the Health District has two main goals, which include the looking at tobacco and smoking with the secondary use of e-cigarettes.

.

Officials with the Health District, citing the 2016 Community Health Assessment, say smoking rate and lung cancer prevalence were identified as significant health issues for the county.

.

In a related note, the public is also invited to join the monthly BreatheWell Ross meetings held the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30am at the Ross County Health District.
