The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) says the spring sports tournaments for last season resulted in a financial loss for the OHSAA.

The spring tournaments for baseball, softball, boys tennis, and track & field came in under projections. It’s mainly due to attendance shortfalls, according to the OHSAA.

More than one thousand fewer fans attended the state softball tournament for a loss of roughly $9,000. More than a thousand fewer fans also attended the state baseball tournament for a loss of just over $4,000. The track and field state tournament drew a state-record 28,834 fans, but increased expenses resulted in an overall loss of $16,909. The boys tennis state tournament drew only a little over 1100 fans and resulted in a loss of $4,679.

The lacrosse state tournament was the only profitable state spring tourney, drawing in slightly more than 6,500 fans for a nearly $11,000 profit.
