The director of the Ross County Historical Society is inviting the public to celebrate the German heritage of Chillicothe and Ross County at “Schmidt’s Night at the Ross County Historical Society.”
-
The event will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Ross County Heritage Center located at 45 West Fifth Street in Chillicothe on Friday, October 11th, and will feature traditional German food prepared by the world-famous Schmidt’s restaurant located in German Village in Columbus.
-
“Germans played a fairly large role in the development and early history of this area,” said Ross County Historical Society Director Tom Kuhn. “Probably at one time, half the people that live in Chillicothe and Ross County could trace their ancestry to Germany.”
-
Schmidt’s Sausage Truck will also be serving many of the most popular items on the Schmidt’s menu, according to Kuhn. Food will be available for purchase while supplies last.
-
Attendees will also hear the Bavarian sounds of The Ohio Alphorn Band while they feast on original German style food. Additionally, there will be a special exhibit on local German culture inside the Heritage Center.
-
The event serves as a social gathering, and it is free and open to the public, said Kuhn. It will take place rain or shine.
