Officials at Xenia's Doug Adams Stadium might want to make sure the scoreboard can keep up with the two offenses scheduled to battle Friday in the Division 6/Region 24 semifinal. The Southeastern Panthers and Covington Buccaneers are both averaging more than 44 points per game, but both teams have gone about their offensive assaults in different ways.
.
Southeastern has done most of their damage on the ground, with Lane Ruby rushing for over 1,700 yards, along with Mikey Nusser's 900 and Dalton Thurston's 600 yards on the ground. Covington's leading rusher has been Trenton Alexander with 570 yards along with 500 from Brayden Wiggins.
.
The Buccaneers offensive strength has been mostly in the air with quarterback Cade Schmelzer throwing for 2,000 yards and 22 TD passes. His favorite target has been Andrew Cates with over 900 receiving yards and a dozen TD catches. Kleyton Maschino has another 500 yards receiving and several TD catches. Alex Shaffer has another 300 yards receiving. The Panthers can throw too, although it hasn't been their first option this season with Lane Ruby tossing for over 500 yards. Dalton Thurston and Aarick Hill have been among his favorite receivers.
.
The Panthers are (11-0) on the season, with strongest opponents being within the SVC from playoff teams Paint Valley and Adena, and SVC foe Unioto.
.
Covington is (9-2) with wins over annual state power Saint Henry and playoff opponent Worthington Christian. Their two losses have been to 35-25 to Minster and 19-14 to Fort Loramie.
.
Like Southeastern, Covington has put up some big score wins in several games. Southeastern stressed the scoreboard in wins of 62-26 vs Eastern Pike, 66-37 vs Adena, 57-14 vs Zane Trace, 54-34 vs Piketon and 56-16 vs Huntington. The Buccs high scoring wins included beating National Trail 75-0, Tri-County North 74-6 and Arcanum 57-0.
