Ross Elections Director Says Lack of Poll Workers at "Crisis Level"

The Ross County Board of Elections Director believes we are at a "crisis level", due to the lack of precinct workers for the 2020 elections. Sarah Williamson says many of their older poll workers are retiring and are not getting replaced, due to a lack of interest.

.

There are 65 precincts in 23 locations, needing four workers per precinct. That totals over 300 workers county-wide, counting extras that are needed in case someone is sick or unable to get off work.

.

Williamson says the county needs local employers to step-up to help with what is being called a "crisis", because the state won't allow precincts to be opened if an inadequate number of workers are present, which could mean longer voting lines if precincts are merged.

.

She would like to hear from employers as to how they might be able to help.

.

Williamson says poll workers are paid to train and work the polls the day of the election. Call the Ross County Board of Elections for more information.
