The Southeastern Panthers picked up their first win of the season with a 49-47 win over Paint Valley Saturday night, and late free throws were a major factor.

For the game, the Panthers connected on 14/21 from the charity stripe while Paint Valley was only 6/13. Southeastern also shot a sizzling 21/38 from the field for 55%, compared to Paint Valley's 20/45 for 44%. PV stayed in the game because they were 5/7 from the arc, while SE was only 1/3.

Southeastern was led by sophomore guard Cameron Hall's 12 points, followed by Aiden Estep's double-double 11 points and 11 rebounds, along with 11 points from Aaron Gillium.

Paint Valley's Bryce Newland was the only Bearcat in double figures, scoring 11 points, although Cordell Grubb had 9 before fouling out of the game. Cruz McFadden also had 9 points.

The Bearcats started strong, jumping out to a 5-0 lead, but Southeastern tied the game 11-11 after one period. A strong Panther second quarter put them up 26-19 at halftime, only to see Paint Valley turn the tables with a 14-6 third quarter for a 33-32 lead after three. Southeastern was 9/13 at the free thrown line in the fourth quarter, lifting them to victory.
