Multi-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 35 Claims Life of Chillicothe Woman

A Chillicothe woman was killed on Monday as the result of a multi-vehicle accident along U.S. 35 in Chillicothe. The accident took place at 12:27 p.m.

According to the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Christy Scherer, 38, of Chillicothe, was pronounced deceased by medical staff at Adena Regional Medical Center after her eastbound vehicle rear-ended another motorist while approaching the bridge situated over the Scioto River.

In a press release late Monday afternoon, Lt. Tim Karwatske of the Chillicothe Patrol Post stated that that Ms. Scherer had failed to stop and her 2010 Hyundai Accent collided with the rear of a stopped 2010 Honda Odyssey. The Honda was then forced into the rear of a 2008 Lexus IS,which in turn was forced into the rear of a 2017 Lincoln MKZ. Traffic in the area was congested due to multiple vehicles trying to exit onto Bridge Street.

Two occupants from two of the other vehicles involved in the crash were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released.

The incident remains under investigation. The Patrol reminds motorists to maintain an assured clear distance between vehicles and to be observant of traffic conditions further ahead of them while driving.
