(Columbus) -- Governor Mike DeWine is joining a group of Ohio lawmakers looking to stop a law that would remove the requirement for vehicles to have a front license plate.
According to details of Senate Bill 179 released yesterday, the safety of school children is front and center in the move to stop the new rule. Police say making Ohio require both front and back plates is a matter of public safety for stopping and catching drivers from speeding past school buses.
Sports car collectors lobbied and successfully got the plate requirement removed from the transportation bill signed last year, and it is set to go into effect on July 1st, 2020.
