Governor Dewine Closes Restaurants and Bars To "In-House Dining"

Governor Mike DeWine says all restaurants and bars in Ohio will be closed to in-house dining until further notice, as of 9pm Sunday March 15th. The governor stated- “Establishments can stay open for carry-out and delivery. What we can't have is people congregating and seated.”

Earlier on Sunday, Dewine also said schools "could be closed for the remainder of the academic year" to stem the spread of the new coronavirus. Public schools have already been ordered to shut down for three weeks. The decision on extending school closures will be made at a later date- IF needed.

"Every day counts so much and you just, you cannot wait. You have got to move very, very quickly. And look, these are tough decisions," DeWine said. "We are inconveniencing people. It is making people’s lives change, but we have got to save lives."

The governor added, “We’ve informed the superintendents while we close schools for three weeks, that the odds are that this is going to go on a lot longer and it would not surprise me at all if schools did not open again this year.”

Ohio officials have predicted COVID-19 infections to peak in late April or early May.
