The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual meeting on August 20, 2020.
Ohio State professor Steve Culman presented a brief summary of the OSU Soil Fertility Lab’s work on updating the Tri-State Fertilizer Recommendations, Cockrell Farms was named Cooperator of the Year, and current board chair Brice Acton won re-election as supervisor.
“The annual meeting was held on Zoom,” says district administrator Bob Neal. “A video of Professor Culman’s presentation is posted on the district website www.rosscountyswcd.org.” Neal says the Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual report is also posted on that site.
The district presented the Cooperator of the Year award to Curtis Cockrell and Cockrell Farms. Neal says, “the district started working with Cockrell Farms nearly ten years ago, beginning with grassed waterways. Cockrell then installed an impressive amount of sub-surface drainage tile over the decade.”
The annual meeting included the re-election of board of supervisors chair Brice Acton. The Frankfort farmer with Acton Family Farms has been a supervisor since 2017 and was named chairman in January of 2020. Acton will continue to serve as supervisor along with Pam Snyder, Kingston; Mike Anderson, South Salem; Rick Hurtt, Chillicothe; and Greg Ramsey, Clarksburg. The district appreciates Kathy Wakefield and Beth Workman for supporting the conservation district by running in the supervisor election.
