57 new cases of COVID-19 been added in Ross County over the past two weeks. The total number of cases are at 625 as of Tuesday. Ten Ross County residents have lost their lives due to virus-related complications. Ross County remains at a Level 1, Yellow, emergency status on the state’s color-coded alert map.
Ohio Department of Health officials are reporting less than one-thousand new cases of COVID-19 in the state for the fifth straight day. Data released on Tuesday showed 844 new cases of Coronavirus, which is five less than on Monday. Hospitalizations saw another spike with 97 new patients, and there were another ten deaths linked to the virus, which puts the state only four away from four-thousand total deaths. The overall total of positive cases of COVID-19 in Ohio since the start of the pandemic is now above 116-thousand with the estimated number of recoveries close to 97-thousand people.
The Ohio State University says the first week of COVID-19 testing has returned positives for around 80 students and 12 staff members. OSU confirmed the results of over seven-thousand tests yesterday, which ran from August 14th to the 22nd among undergrads, faculty, graduate and professional students, and staff. The University also unveiled a new data dashboard that will be updated weekly on Tuesdays to inform the public about test results and other COVID-19 information. OSU officials say they will continue to refine, improve, and expand their testing efforts.
University of Cincinnati researchers are injecting volunteers with a potential COVID-19 vaccine. Doctors administered the first doses of the vaccine candidate yesterday as part of a worldwide clinical trial. Participants will keep a diary of their symptoms and undergo regular checkups to see if the vaccine is doing its job.
