A 26-year-old Clarksburg man was found guilty of rape Tuesday by a Ross County Jury. Jacob Bennett was charged with the first-degree felony, that in connection with the July 2020 incident involving a female who was 17-years-old at the time. Bennett, who is married, told Ross County Sheriff's Deputies that the sexual encounter was consensual, but text messages from Bennett to the victim entered as evidence into the case included one where Bennett said he basically committed the the crime. Bennett is scheduled for sentencing June 9th.
