Authorities in Scioto County are warning residents of a phone scam. Sheriff David Thouroughman says his office has been receiving calls from county residents saying they've been contacted by someone claiming to be employees of the sheriff's office. The caller is asking people to go to Walmart and purchase pre-paid gift cards, and to then supply them with the card information. They say doing this will help the caller to avoid having a warrant issued for their arrest. The sheriff says the call should be ignored.
