National Guard bus drivers possible

Ohio could tap the National Guard to drive school buses. It's a step already taken in other states and Governor Mike DeWine says it's a possibility. Drivers are needed statewide as families struggle with canceled routes due to lack of employees. In some districts office staff, mechanics and substitute teachers with the proper license are driving buses. The shortage of drivers is leading Massachusetts to bring in the National Guard for help. Lawmakers in New York say the Guard is needed there to help with the shortage as well. Cities in Ohio, Virginia and elsewhere report similar shortages that are leading to kids sometimes waiting hours for a bus, or worse, waiting for a bus that never arrives. The National School Transportation Association says COVID has stretched the bus driver ranks thin, much like many industries.
