The Ross County Commissioners have heard from or are aware of four solar projects in Ross County.
Monday afternoon, "National Grid Renewables" returned to speak with the commissioners on the continuing development of their "Yellowbud Solar" project.
Solar farms appear to have become popular recently, even in partly cloudy Ohio. Commissioner Doug Corcoran mentioned four of them:
- The Yellowbud solar farm under construction on State Route 104 and Swaney Road, in Union Township, by National Grid Renewables
- "Ross County Solar" in Buckskin & Paint townships, permitted for National Grid Renewables
- A solar farm in Green Township, said to start construction in 2022 or 2023
- "Oak" solar farm on Westfall Road and State Route 207, being planned by Innergex, who spoke to the commissioners November 29th. (Innergex is currently developing the "Palomino" solar farm in Highland County, and completed the "Hillcrest" array in Brown County five months ago.)
The companies building the solar farms are regulated by the state, which requires dialogue with local government.
The state also allows payments directly to them, instead of taxes, under PILOT or "Payment In Lieu Of Taxes."
