Governor Signs Bill Shifting School Funding From Businesses To Homeowners

(Cedarville, OH) -- Governor DeWine has signed a new Bill that could shift school funding from commercial property owners to homeowners.

Governor DeWine signed House Bill 126, which changes a 46-year-old law that allows school districts to initiate complaints about undervalued properties to a County Board of Revision. Districts often challenge the property values on commercial lands since they generate higher tax revenue than properties with housing.

Supporters of the Bill said districts were too aggressive against business owners, while opponents say the new law is a tax shift that blocks due process for local governments.
