High School Students Participating in "Envirothon" in Tar Hollow State Park

Many local students have signed up for an environmental academic competition at a local state park Tuesday.

The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District has announced that 189 high school students from nine counties are competing in the central and southern Ohio "Envirothon," 9am to 1pm April 26th. They will hike through Tar Hollow State Park and answer questions about soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife, and the environment.

The top four teams will advance to a state competition in June.

Pike and Ross County will field a dozen teams from Adena, Huntington, Piketon, Southeastern, Waverly, and Zane Trace school districts.

Students and other FFA members are also traveling from Adams, Brown, Delaware, Franklin, Highland, Hocking, and Vinton counties. Those schools represented include Manchester, Peebles, Eastern Brown, Fayetteville Perry, Hillsboro, Lynchburg Clay, Greenfield McClain, Logan High School, a home school team from McArthur - and the Mowrystown FFA.

Envirothon events are happening all over the state. This Area 5 event is co-sponsored by the Pike Soil and Water Conservation District, the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District, and Tar Hollow State Park.
