"Captured" Photo Show at Chillicothe's Pump House Art Gallery

This month's show at the Pump House Center for the Arts is a judged photography show titled "Captured." Kevin Coleman was there at opening night Thursday evening, May 5th, 2022.

Jared Mitten won best of show with his large aluminum plate print of an Alaskan scene. He named the 46-second exposure of the coastline, "Twilight."

Jared Mitten won best of show with his large aluminum plate print of an Alaskan scene. He named the 46-second exposure of the coastline of the Turnagain Arm, part of the Cook Inlet, "Twilight."

He doesn't call himself a professional, but rather an "experienced hobbyist" who takes trips to get photos.

Jared said he liked his other print in the show better, but the judge chose this one. He said, to him, the photo is more about the story of taking it and his memories.

Douglas Crabtree calls his black-and-white print of two women lying on a forest floor, "Circle of Two."

He said the shoot was like an expedition, taking them to a logging road off a township road off a county road in Lawrence County.

Crabtree says he wants his photos to be undatable. He photographs nudes in nature so there are no reference points.

Unioto High School senior Maya Hamed had the presence of mind to get a self-portrait of herself screaming. Her black-and-white print "In My Mind" won third place.

Dave Robinette's 500mm telephoto of a possum trotting across snow to get to bird feed on his front porch charmed the judge enough to award second place.

The show is up through the end of the month, and some works are for sale. The Pump House is Chillicothe's free public art gallery in Yoctangee Park.
