"Remembering Those Who Gave All in Vietnam" in Chillicothe

Just ahead of Sunday's "Memorial Day Weekend Grand Parade" in Chillicothe was an event to remember "Those Who Gave All in Vietnam." Mary Mace Miller of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution chaired the event at Veterans Memorial Park in Chillicothe.

She said one of the goals for the DAR this year was a 50th year ceremony honoring Vietnam veterans. So the Nathaniel Massie Chapter of the DAR planned this recognition for 23 Ross County soldiers who did not return home from Vietnam.

ROTC students from Greenfield McClain High School read biographies of all 23, and then family members or representative veterans accepted recognition.

Composite photos the veterans were on display in front of the local Vietnam memorial during the event, and Miller says they are on permanent display in the AmVets hall at the East Main Street overpass.

The Chillicothe Evening Lions Club placed US flags for the event, and will set more than 700 of them today downtown, along State Route 104 in the Camp Sherman area, and elsewhere for Memorial Day.

Family members of the personnel who died in Vietnam visited the composite photos, set in front of the Ross County Vietnam Veterans monument. The ceremonial POW/MIA table stands in the foreground.
