A Columbus man is in custody in connection with reports of a ten-year-old rape victim travelling to Indiana for an abortion.
The story, originally appearing in the Indianapolis Star, gained nationwide attention when President Joe Biden referenced it last week while discussing the impact of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Franklin County Children's Services reported the incident to police, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Gerson Fuentes.
The aborted fetus has been retained as evidence in the case, with detectives obtaining DNA from Fuentes Tuesday to determine whether he is responsible for impregnating the girl. The results of the test are pending.
