Free Computer Classes

The Pickaway County District Public Library will be offering free computer classes at three locations in March. Most classes are conducted as hands-on workshops in a computer lab. Participants are welcome to take the classes multiple times if necessary to master the information. 

The March schedule includes seven single-session classes at the Main Library in Circleville, two classes at the Younkin Branch Library in Ashville and three classes at the Darbyville Technology Center. All classes are two hours and registration is required by calling (740) 477-1644 extension 227 for the Main Library and Darbyville or (740) 983-8856 extension 21 for the Younkin Branch. 

Beginning Computing introduces the computer and its uses for beginners, covering basic skills and terminology. Participants will receive hands-on experience using the mouse. There are no minimum requirements for this class.

Tuesday, March 7, 12 PM to 2 PM, at the Main Library, Circleville

Tuesday, March 7, 1 PM to 3 PM, at the Darbyville Technology Center

Saturday, March 18, 10 AM to 12 PM, at the Darbyville Technology Center

Sunday, March 26, 1 PM to 3 PM, at the Younkin Branch Library in Ashville


 Beginning Word 2013 covers how to add text, spell check, correct text, highlight, change a document’s appearance, print and save. Experience using the mouse and keyboard is required.

Tuesday, March 7, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, at the Main Library

Thursday, March 16, 6 PM to 8 PM, at the Younkin Branch Library in Ashville 

Tuesday, March 28, 6 PM to 8 PM, at the Darbyville Technology Center 


Beginning Excel 2013 introduces how to create and save a worksheet, format columns and rows, apply basic text formatting, the difference between deleting and clearing a cell, automatically fill in labels, merge cells and perform simple mathematical calculations. Experience using the mouse and keyboard is required.

Thursday, March 9, 12 PM to 2 PM, at the Main Library


Intermediate Word 2013 expands on how to format text, use find/replace/search, set page breaks, insert graphics, add tables and other page layout/design items.  Experience using the mouse and keyboard is required along with completion of the library’s Beginning Word Class or experience with Word 2013.

Tuesday, March 14, 12 PM to 2 PM, at the Main Library


Microsoft Word Mail Merge will teach how to create documents to go to multiple recipients, including letters, labels and envelopes. This class will cover how to insert unique elements such as recipient name, address, etc.  Experience using the mouse and keyboard is required along with completion of the library’s Intermediate Word Class or experience with Word 2013.

Digital Graphics & Photography will be a lecture-style discussion of camera settings and digital photography as it pertains to the use of images on the computer and Internet. Experience with computers is required with a preference for those having completed the library’s Intermediate Computer Class.

Friday, March 17, 12 PM to 2 PM, at the Main Library


Intermediate Computing will discuss the Windows 10 operating system and file management. It will offer an introduction to the Internet and the library’s website. Experience using the mouse and keyboard is required.

Thursday, March 23, 12 PM to 2 PM, at the Main Library


In addition to scheduled classes, new one-on-one help sessions are being offered. Known as “Check Out A Tech,” these 30-minute appointments are available for patrons to spend one-on-one time with the library’s Information Technology staff. Topics that the IT staff can help with are general computing skills, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access), Microsoft Windows (XP, 7 or 10), Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), graphics and home networking principles.
