Joe Moriarty of Riverdance To Perform at Tecumseh Fundraiser

The Scioto Society, producers of the Outdoor Drama Tecumseh, is excited to announce their third annual spring fundraiser, Cead Mile Failte, on March 11th at St. Peters Hall in Downtown Chillicothe.

The event will be held in the stunningly renovated St. Peters Hall and offer a glimpse into a historic building that many people may not have had the opportunity to see.

“The room is just beautiful.  Last year our event was in this room and everyone was so impressed with what has been done in there.” Said Scioto Society CEO, Brandon Smith.

Joseph Moriarty was born and raised in Pickerington, Ohio and started traditional Irish dancing at the age of seven. It was soon obvious he had a natural flair for dancing and within a couple of years was winning age group titles at the US Midwestern Regional and US National Irish Dancing Championships. Joseph progressed to competing at the World Championships and consistently placed in the top five.

Mr. Moriarty then joined Riverdance: The Show in 1997 at the age of sixteen and was asked to train for a lead position shortly after. Joseph is to date, the youngest male ever to be given the principal role. He is the second North American male to be given the lead role in the history of the show. Joseph held the lead male role longer than anyone in Riverdance history and toured with the company for over thirteen years. His career highlights include starring on Broadway, performing in the Peoples Hall of China and the Moscow Kremlin State Palace, as well as performances for the Empress of Japan, the President of Ireland and many others.

Mr. Moriarty now concentrates his time running his dance studio in Pickerington, The ML Dance Academy with his wife, Yulia.  He is excited to be performing in Chillicothe.

In addition, The Drowsy Lads, who were a huge hit at last year's event, are returning to perform. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar, food, soft drinks, a silent auction and entertainment by Mike Boyle. Tickets are $75 each or $550 for reserved tables of eight.  A ticket includes dinner, champagne, and the show. Limited tickets are available now by calling 740-775-4100.

Cead Mile Failte is presented by Huntington Bank with support from G&J Pespi Bottlers and Classic Brands.
