CHS Celebrates Black History Month

On Friday, Chillicothe High School held its annual Black History Month Assembly, focusing on the crisis in black education. During the program, CHS Principal Dr. Jeff Fisher recognized one of his senior students for her accomplishments.

"As we sit here discussing the crisis in black education, one of our own is achieving at levels few have in her position. A young lady raised in a single-parent home, a member of multiple minority classes, an African-American female from Appalachian Ohio, Miss Georgia Hilliard was just awarded as the Ellis Cutler Scholar Award at Ohio University."

As a Cutler Scholar, Hilliard will receive a full scholarship to Ohio University as well as funding for enrichment opportunities.

Hilliard said the scholarship is life-changing: "I know in the future it's only going to allow me to be more successful because I had the enrichment opportunities..., the community, the study help..., and I'm so excited about it."

She plans on majoring in chemistry.
