Fatal Pedestrian-Car Crash (Updated)

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a pedestrian was fatally hit by a car on US 50 in Ross County.

At 10:20pm Saturday, March 4, 35-year-old April R. Higginbotham of Wellston was walking in the lanes of travel of US 50 near US 35.

30-year-old Max J. Leaming of McArthur was eastbound in a 2012 Ford Focus on US 50, which struck Higginbotham.  She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Columbus Dispatch says the Patrol reported Higginbotham had left a vehicle and was trying to cross US 50 near the intersection with Old US 35 about 3 miles southeast of Chillicothe.

They also say Leaming performed CPR, and that the vehicle the woman left was not at the scene when troopers arrived.

Liberty Township Fire Department and Liberty Township E.M.S. assisted with the incident.
