Jackson Teen Dies After Crash

The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old Jackson resident.

The Post received a report of a crash on St. Rt. 327, ½ mile north of milepost 1, in Jackson County at 2:58 p.m., Friday. The initial investigation revealed that 15-year-old Benjamin Snyder was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of St. Rt. 327 on a bicycle.  A 1995 Buick LeSabre driven by 38 year-old Danielle Vest, of Wellston, was travelling southbound when she struck the bicycle head-on as the bicyclist was trying to cross the southbound lane.  Benjamin Snyder was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. 

 St. Rt. 327 was closed for nearly 1 hour while the scene was processed.  Other agencies assisting at the scene were units from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Bloomfield Fire Dept., Jackson Co. EMS and O.D.O.T. 

 No charges have been filed, although the crash remains under investigation.
