A 6th grade Bishop Flaget student placed third overall this week at the District Spelling Bee at Ohio University in Athens.
Nilla Rajan was eliminated in the 12th round of the competition on Monday on the word "colchicum."
Rajan competed in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., last year, making it through the first two rounds, but missing the final cut by just a couple of points on the written test. She placed 46th overall last year.
Other local spellers also competed this week including Caliann Owens of Piketon who tied for 4th falling in the 11th round; Brady Wood of Chillicothe Middle School was eliminated in the 5th round, Austin Sprouse of Tiffin Elementary went out in the 4th round, and Richard Davis of Allen Elementary was eliminated in the 2nd round.
Rajan is the daughter of Drs. Nithya and Karthika Rajan of Chillicothe.
