OSU Athletic Star Spoke in Chillicothe Thursday Evening

Katie Smith is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the most decorated American professional basketball players.

She told the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Ross County that she enjoyed her experience there, saying it her sports career "was a blast," but the university experience was teh foundation for the rest of her life.

After her career at OSU, she moved on to professional women's basketball...retiring at the ripe age of 37.  She says she was surprised at her longevity in sports.

Smith says she never thought to be a coach, but decided to try it and help others enjoy basketball.  She now coaches for the WNBA New York Liberty, who's season is about to start.

Her advice for those going into sports?  The hard work is the bottom line, but also take care of "the little things" - and stay open to learning more.

Her autographed basketball fetched $200 for scholarships the alumni group sponsors.
