Second Annual Archaeology Day

(Ross County Heritage Center) -- The Ross County Historical Society, in conjunction with the Mound City Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio and Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, will host its second annual Archaeology Day on Saturday, April 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Featured will be more than 20 exhibits of locally and regionally-found prehistoric artifacts, geo-facts, fossils, minerals, rocks, and geodes.

Many prehistoric items from the Historical Society’s collections, including mammoth/mastodon tusks, teeth, and vertebrae, will also be on display for only the second time in recent years.

In addition, there will be other fascinating exhibits on local prehistoric flint sources with samples of various flint types.

Do you want to know more about items you have found?  Professional and amateur archaeologists will be on hand to help identify items brought in by the public.  Retired Ohio archaeologist Dr. JEB Bowen and others will answer questions and help identify items from private collections.

The event will take place at the Ross County Heritage Center located at 45 West 5th Street, Chillicothe.

Admission is free and open to the public and includes tours of the Ross County Historical Society’s permanent prehistoric cultures exhibit.
