Multi-Vehicle Semi Crash Injures One in Fayette County

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic crash from early Tuesday morning involving three semi tractor-trailers.

According to Sheriff Stanforth, a semi-truck operated by Dexter R. May, 55, of Branchland, West Virginia was traveling south on Interstate 71 near the Fayette/Greene County line and traveled off the right side of the roadway striking another semi that was stationary in the emergency lane.  The stationary semi truck was occupied by Dumitru Cotorobai, 27, of Miamisburg.

Following the first collision, May's semi over-corrected, traveling back across the Interstate 71 southbound lanes and into the median area where his vehicle overturned onto its side and began sliding across the northbound lanes. It then collided with another semi truck operated by Jason Buffington, 47, of New Brighton, Pennsylvania, before coming to rest.

All three vehicles suffered extensive damage according to the report.  May was trapped inside his vehicle and extricated by members of the Jefferson Township Fire Department. May was transported by Fayette County EMS to the Fayette County Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Cotorobai and Buffington reported no injuries in the crash.
