The Wheelersburg Pirates just don't make many mistakes in baseball. On Saturday, Pirate starter Kaden Coleman didn't walk a batter, allowed only four Adena hits, and was backed by error-less defense in a solid 3-0 win over the Warriors.
Adena batters only struck out three times and made solid contact with their bats but Wheelersburg played flawless defense including a couple of web gems. The Warriors advanced only one runner past first base all afternoon.
Adena was also solid on defense turning two ground ball double plays and committing only one error. The Burg scored single runs in the second, third, and fifth innings.
Starter Jake Dawson got out of a bases loaded no out jam in the third after a run was in. Ethan Kunkel came on in relief in the fourth to get the final out and also pitched out of a jam in the 5th.
Of the three Pirate runs, two batters that scored reached on a lead off walk and a lead off hit batter. Dawson and Kunkel combined to give up nine hits and pitched well in the clutch.
Dawson, Trey Postage, Josh Morgan, and Ethan Cunningham each had a single for the Warriors four hits.
Wheelersburg advances to the sweet sixteen and plays Zane Trace at VA Memorial Stadium on Thursday at 5 PM. ZT garnered a title with a 5-3 win over Minford.
