Vinton County National Bank will celebrate 150 years in business in a big way this 4th of July weekend. The bank has partnered with the Vinton County High School Athletic Boosters to bolster their 4th of July celebration and will host events throughout the holiday weekend.
Tom Will is the President/CEO of Community Bancshares, Inc., the holding company which owns Vinton County National Bank. Will’s family started the bank in 1867 and has been involved in daily operations and ownership for the 150 years since.
“We wanted to do something to observe our own anniversary while also giving back to the community,” Will said. “We are an American made company and we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our made in America history over the holiday weekend. The Boosters have been most gracious, allowing us to sponsor events and add to their schedule some things we wanted to do.”
The 4th of July Celebration will include a parade, fireworks, concert by Nashville recording artist Jason Michael Carroll, inflatables, tournament games, Civil War era baseball and re-enactors, vendors, food and more!
Here are the things VCNB will be involved in:
Friday, June 30
6:30 p.m. Vinton County Athletic Boosters’ 4th of July Parade - Come enjoy the parade and a free horsedrawn wagon ride following the parade! Then take part in the 4th of July activities at Vinton County High School.
Saturday, July 1
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Antique, Classic, & Hot Rod Show sponsored by VCNB - While there, take part in other festival activities including inflatables for the kids, vendors, a Kiddie Tractor Pull, baby contest, food and other entertainment.
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. VCNB Open House - Come to where it all began 150 years ago! The bank invites you to stop by our McArthur office for refreshments, entertainment by the Adelphi Band and a tour of the bank’s new museum! A brief ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. to open the event. The first 250 attendees will receive a VCNB Cat’s Meow.
8 p.m. Jason Michael Carroll Concert sponsored by VCNB - Nashville recording artist Jason Michael Carroll will perform at VCHS. General admission tickets are $10 and reserved seats are $15. Purchase general admission tickets in advance at Spring Street Sports in McArthur and reserved or general admission seats at the Vinton County Auditor’s Office.
Sunday, July 2
1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Vinton County National Bank Day - The Ohio Village Muffins men’s and women’s teams will play bankers and members of the community in a double header, using 1860’s baseball rules and uniforms. That means wool uniforms, no mitts and a whole different set of rules than we’re used to playing with! The women will play at 1 p.m. and the men’s game will follow at 3 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, there will be old fashioned games for kids and music provided by Steve Ball who uses Civil War era instruments to play period music. Also, meet Abraham Lincoln and General George Custer and have your pictures taken! While you’re there, remember the Boosters will have food, alumni tournaments and other fun going on this afternoon! Plus, the first 150 kids will receive a 150th Commemorative Piggy Bank. One piggy bank will contain $25!
The public is invited and encouraged to attend all of these events. Follow VCNB on Facebook or learn more about the bank and its 150th anniversary at VCNBfamily.me.
