Open Position at Chillicothe Waste Water Treatment Plant

The City of Chillicothe has an open position at the waste water treatment plant. It's a technical position which requires certain prior training and certification. 

The application period runs from Monday, July 24th to Friday, August 11th.

Nature of Work:

The job is located within the City of Chillicothe Wastewater Treatment Plant, lift stations, grinder pump stations, and anywhere inside or outside the City limits as required by job duties.  This is responsible and technical work in the theory and operation of a wastewater treatment plant.  Work is performed on an assigned shift according to the Wastewater Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions: 

Operates all equipment in the plant with process control computer or in manual mode, i.e. pumps mechanical screens, grit classifier, switchboards, chemical feeders, centrifuge, emergency generators, blowers, clarifiers, trickling filters, digesters and other related plant equipment. *Collects various samples and performs physical and chemical tests daily.  *Keeps logs and other records needed for daily plant operations. *Cleans and maintains the wastewater plant’s buildings, ground and lift stations. *Performs preventive maintenance, minor maintenance, and assists with mechanical and electrical/instrumentation maintenance as needed. *Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, walk up and down several flights of stairs, ascend and descend on a ladder, and lift heavy objects (within reason). *Performs any number of unspecified duties in an emergency or as instructed by the Utilities Director or as required.

Critical Skills/Expertise:

Thorough knowledge of the theory, methods, and principles of the operations in a wastewater treatment plant.

Considerable knowledge of the wastewater process equipment and how it operates.

Thorough knowledge of the physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes involved in the treatment of wastewater. *Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety requirements involved in a wastewater treatment plant. *Knowledge of performing physical and chemical analysis on the wastewater.

Must be able to work in harmony with others and must have good public relations skills. *Must have good communication skills.

Required Experience/Training:

A high school diploma or G.E.D. *A valid driver’s license and insurability under the City’s fleet coverage as required.

A class I OEPA Wastewater Works Operator Certificate *Courses in wastewater treatment and related subjects as required (OTCO, etc.).*Must pass a physical examination as well as a drug & alcohol test by a doctor and medical laboratory designated by and paid for by the City of Chillicothe.

A structured interview will be given to qualified applicants to determine Civil Service ranking for eligibility.
