Safe Communities of Pickaway County will be honoring State Rep. Gary Scherer, 92nd Ohio House District, as a traffic safety advocate at this year's Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Kick-Off event in Pickaway County.
Rep. Scherer co-sponsored what has come to be known as "Annie's Law," which was signed into law on Jan. 4th by Governor John Kasich and took effect April 4th.
The law, named for Chillicothe native Annie Rooney who was killed by a drunk driver in 2013, provides incentives for judges as well as drunk driving offenders to equip an offender's car with an ignition interlock device that does not allow a vehicle to start unless a breath test is passed.
Local city and county officials also will be on hand for the presentation at 9:00 a.m. at the Pickaway Farmer's Market on Saturday, August 12th. For the duration of the Farmer's Market that morning, Safe Communities will be on hand to provide materials and information on drunk driving, and the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office will provide an interactive activity using golf carts and drunk driving goggles to show guests the dangers of being impaired behind the wheel.
