The Ross County Farm Bureau is bringing two distinguished speakers to Frankfort for the group’s annual meeting, held in conjunction with the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District.
Jack Fisher, the former Executive Vice President of the Ohio Farm Bureau, will address farmers and ag professionals along with Ty Higgins, the Ohio Ag Net broadcaster who went viral this summer, mowing “Script Ohio” on a Michigan fan’s lawn.
Both will address members of the Ross County Farm Bureau and residents of the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District. The groups are collaborating to hold combined annual business meetings with both organizations holding separate elections.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday August 31st at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunroom at the Brick in Frankfort. The cost of the meal is $10. Members should call the Farm Bureau for reservations at 800-992-3276 or call the conservation district at 740-772-4110.
Residents can also email the farm bureau at ross@ofbf.org or email the conservation district at bneal@rosscountyswcd.org. Those planning to attend should RSVP by August 24th.
The Farm Bureau will be voting on policies and board members, while the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District is holding an election for an open seat on the district’s five-member board of supervisors. Ross C. Meeker and Brice Acton are running to fill a seat being vacated by Dennis Corcoran at the end of his term this year. Anyone 18 and over who owns or farms property in Ross county is invited to attend the meeting and vote in the election. Conservation district voting is from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. before the annual meeting. Absentee voting is available for those in the district that cannot attend. Complete details about the election and candidate biographies are on the district’s website at www.rosscountyswcd.org.
The district is celebrating its 70th year and will remember the district’s first supervisors. Mike Peterson’s great uncle Willard R. Peterson was elected the first chairman for the board of supervisors in 1947. Mike Peterson will be recognized for his own conservation practices in place today on his farm near Frankfort.
This year the district is partnering with the Ross County Farm Bureau to hold a combined meeting. “Many agricultural organizations like to hold an annual meeting between the fair and the harvest,” says district administrator Bob Neal. “It can be a challenge to make every meeting so the farm bureau and the conservation district decided to hold our meetings together,” Neal says.
The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District primarily assists residents and farmers with conservation practices that prevent soil erosion. Ross county residents can find out more at the district website www.rosscountyswcd.org or by calling 740-772-4110 or visiting the district office in the Ross County Service Center on Western Avenue.
