Protest Calls For Removal Of Columbus Statue

(Columbus)  --  Protesters in Columbus want a statue of Christopher Columbus removed from City Hall.

The "Columbus Dispatch" says more than a hundred protesters gathered in front of City Hall Saturday and called for the removal of the large statue, saying the Italian explorer is a symbol of white supremacy.

Organizers of the rally said they are trying to stand up to a resurgence of racism in the country.

In Worthington, the Columbus Dispatch reports the historic marker outside the former home of a Confederate general has been taken down in anticipation of protests.

City officials confirmed yesterday that the Ripley House marker had been removed.  The decision was made by the property’s private owner following a recommendation from city officials.
