A planned clean-up effort at the Renick Avenue Yard Waste Disposal Site in Chillicothe is being delayed due to Hurricane Irma.
"This has been in the works for about a year," said Chillicothe Mayor, Luke Feeney. "We were working with the 1194th Engineering Unit of the National Guard to get our brush out to the Chillicothe VA where the VA would be able to use it in their biofuel system. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma came along and our local folks were called into service."
Mayor Feeney says the clean-up will be rescheduled to take place at a later date.
"I think we all understand the priority down there," said Feeney. We're grateful and appreciative for their service, and we understand how important it is to clean up that mess, but, for us, our mess will exist a little bit longer."
Feeney says though the clean-up will be rescheduled, it's currently unknown exactly when that will be.
